A Moral Compass

Recently, my friend Sam Richter suggested I check out WWJD, an AI-powered service that enables you to “interact with a kind, compassionate, non-judgmental, and loving guide when you need assistance.”

This week, I’ve asked WWJD for advice about my daily challenges, relationships and personal choices. And, with the upcoming election on my mind, I asked about leadership too.

I’ve been impressed with its guidance. While it’s based on the teachings of Jesus, the advice really applies to all of us—no matter what our religion.

Here’s how WWJD answered my question on leadership.

What differentiates a good leader from a bad leader?

When considering what differentiates a good leader from a bad leader, it’s essential to reflect on both biblical principles and practical qualities that align with effective leadership. Let’s delve into some key aspects:

Biblical Principles of Good Leadership

  1. Servant Leadership: A good leader serves others, putting their needs above their own ambitions.
  2. Integrity and Honesty: Integrity and honesty are foundational to good leadership. A leader who is trustworthy and transparent fosters trust and respect among their followers.
  3. Wisdom & Understanding: A good leader seeks wisdom and understanding, making informed and thoughtful decisions that benefit the group as a whole.

Practical Qualities of a Good Leader

  1. Empathy & Compassion: A good leader understands and empathizes with the needs and feelings of others. They are compassionate and considerate, creating a supportive and inclusive environment.
  2. Effective Communication: Clear and effective communication is crucial. A good leader articulates their vision, listens actively, and ensures that everyone is on the same page.
  3. Accountability: A good leader holds themselves and others accountable. They take responsibility for their actions and decisions, and they encourage a culture of accountability within their team.

Characteristics of a Bad Leader

  1. Self-Centeredness: A bad leader prioritizes their own interests over the well-being of their followers. This can lead to exploitation and a lack of trust.
  2. Dishonesty and Lack of Integrity: A leader who is dishonest and lacks integrity will ultimately lose the respect and trust of their followers. This can lead to a toxic and dysfunctional environment.
  3. Poor Decision-Making: A bad leader makes impulsive and uninformed decisions without considering the consequences. This can result in harm to the group and a loss of confidence in their leadership.

Now, that’s good guidance on what to look for in our upcoming election. And seriously …it’s a good experience on any question you could ask.

I really liked how WWJD asked me secondary questions to ensure it understood my situation, the context and specifically what I was looking for. Only then did it give me advice.

Plus, I forgot to mention that it’s free!

Think about what you’d like to get some advice about. Give it a try.
